B Vitamins Supplement

Ortho B Complex is a unique and balanced B complex supplement, containing eight essential B vitamins, also including choline and inositol. The benefit to Ortho B Complex is its high-nutrient content and its inclusion of the wide and complex variety of B vitamins.

Why Are B Vitamins So Important?

B Vitamins have historically been taken together to support energy production, immune health, cardiovascular health and neurological health. These vitamins work synergistically to support these bodily functions properly and efficiently. B vitamins are essential for the body to convert food into cellular energy by serving as the prime coenzyme in the Kreb’s cycle (the biochemical pathway responsible for maintaining energy production), so adequate B vitamin intake is necessary for maintaining these energy levels. Additional intake is often needed by those who experience high levels of stress, and deficiency is more common in those who take medications that deplete the body’s B vitamins.

What is in Ortho B Complex?

Thiamine (Vitamin B1)

Thiamine is naturally abundant in whole grains, although not like the typical over-processed grains we see today. Thiamine is an essential co-factor in the production of ATP in the Kreb’s cycle. It is also needed for the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

Riboflavin is also essential to energy production and intermediary metabolism, while also acting as a powerful antioxidant. Research shows that cells displaying a depletion in riboflavin experience signs of oxidative stress and disrupted energy generation. With optimal riboflavin, the body can also maintain healthy blood pressure levels.

Niacin

Niacin is a cofactor in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, which produces ATP (energy production). Niacin, or nicotinic acid, has historically played a large role in cardiovascular health, showing in many studies to support cholesterol levels.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is involved in over 100 enzymatic creations in the body, along with being essential for lipid metabolism, neurotransmitter formation, immune health and hormone modulation. Studies have shown significance in cardiovascular health for those who consumed Vitamin B6, compared to those who did not. Along with this, Vitamin B6 has been researched for its unique capabilities to boost the immune system, increasing the activity of lymphocytes that promote optimal immune function.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is often associated with its use in pregnancy to ensure the healthy development of neural tubes in babies. Folic acid, however, has many other functions, including DNA synthesis. Similar to Vitamin B6, folic acid helps regulate mitochondrial enzymes and energy metabolism.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)

Vitamin B12 is only found in organ meats, seafood and egg yolks and can often become deficient in vegan or vegetarian diets. Vitamin B12 is essential for the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates, the synthesis of proteins, and plays a role in regulating mitochondrial enzymes and energy metabolism, along with neurological health.

Biotin

Biotin is synthesized by the bacteria in the gut and is involved in metabolism in fatty acids, amino acids and utilization of B vitamins. Biotin has been found to help support healthy blood sugar in both human and animal studies, as well as balancing healthy blood fats.

Pantothenic Acid

Pantothenic acid are essential to the synthesis of important fatty acids, membrane phospholipids, amino acids, steroid hormones, and energy production. Pantothenic acid has also been shown to balance blood fats, similar to biotin.

Choline Bitartrate

Choline is not a B vitamin, but is often associated with B vitamins. Choline is important in the construction of cell membranes and plasma lipoproteins, as it plays a large role in cell signaling and in the synthesis of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) and is essential for brain development.
