As reported in the Chicago Tribune, the FCC is currently investigating the levels of radiation emitted from iPhones previously deemed safe by Apple:
Radiofrequency radiation exposure from the iPhone 7 — one of the most popular smartphones ever sold — measured over the legal safety limit and more than double what Apple reported to federal regulators from its own testing.
The Chicago Tribune funded the test through a third party accredited laboratory. The tribune also tested other iPhone models which also measured over the legal safety limit.
The FCC is responsible for regulating phone safety, and explicitly states that if a cell phone is approved for sale, it “will never exceed” the maximum allowable exposure limit. However the results of the tribune’s testing definitely raise questions about whether approved cell phones actually meet safety standards. These guidelines are in place for the sole purpose of protecting the public; but now we’re left wondering if they’re actually as safe as manufacturers (and the FCC!) say they are.
SafeSleeve, a leading manufacturer of EMF-blocking products, offered this commentary on the situation:
There is strong evidence, based on several high profile, peer-reviewed studies that the FCC limits for RF exposure levels were already far too high. In these studies, statistically significant causation has been established between exposure to RF radiation levels similar to what a cell phone user may be exposed to and health effects such as cancerous tumors and infertility. In addition to data from these independent studies, the limits were based on FCC studies that were conducted in the 90’s that reflected typical usage during the time period and based on the simulated effects on a 200 lb, adult male user. Clearly the FCC limits were not set according to current usage patterns and did not account for the massive variety of the types of people that use cell phones, including children.
In the meantime, there are ways you can protect yourself from harmful radiation. You can minimize the exposure to RF radiation by limiting the time on your phone and also by using cases and sleeves that block such radiation. We offer anti-radiation cases for many of your wireless devices in our online store.
