Why use Galangal Root Powder for Cancer?
Galangal root powder (Alpinia officinarum) is a traditional oriental spice often used in folk medicine. Galangin, the active flavonol exerted anticancer effects on several cancers, including melanoma, hepatoma, and colon cancer cells. Apoptotic pathways in cancer cells might be activated by prolonged stress on an organelle in the cell’s cytoplasm called the endoplasmic reticulum. Studies have shown that galangin induced endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. In addition, galangin also induced autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma cells, via activating the TGF-β receptor/Smad pathway which can also help fight cancer.
We use a raw, powdered galangal root that can be added to a smoothie or even used by itself in hot water as a tea. It has a ginger-like taste that is quite pleasant.
