Trust in God’s Sovereignty
And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good. For those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
God is sovereign & does allow difficult seasons in our lives to discipline & shape us more into the image of His Son. Life’s hardships are where we see God the most. During joyful times, we forget God & His presence, but difficult times lead us into His arms. It is in these times that we are tested on our obedience & learn to trust in His faithfulness. We learn more about ourselves & our loving God during these hard seasons.
Seek Him First
But seek first His kingdom & His righteousness, & all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33
We often tell cancer patients to never make their illness an idol. While it is important to be diligent in researching, taking your supplements, & doing your treatments, be certain not to get lost in this disease. Cancer can so easily pull patients into its grasp, not only physically, but also emotionally. Families can become consumed in the entirety of grave illnesses, which can be understood, but be careful to not overlook God’s significance & His hand in your life.
Seek Him first before any disease, any passion, occupation or otherwise. Be obedient to His commands, serving Him above all other things. This can be difficult for anyone facing a difficult season, but seeking Him first is more significant in hardship than anything else.
Our Only Fear Should be of Him
The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge.
Proverbs 1:7
Death can be a scary thought, especially for those facing a grave diagnosis. However, the only thing to fear is God. What does this mean? Fearing God means to fear His wrath upon us for our sinful ways. A healthy fear should always be present in any person facing potential eternity in hell if we do not repent from our ways. Thankfully, God is faithful & merciful. Believers should not fear illness or what it can do to us, but rather have a healthy everyday fear of the power of God. This fear is the beginning of knowledge.
