We can’t even imagine what heaven is going to be like. We have nothing to compare it to. The only way we can describe it is with opposites – there will be no pain, no suffering, no illness, no anxiety, no depression, no lies, no deceit, no worries, no hunger, no disease, no loneliness, no sin. It’s literally impossible to describe because we cannot fathom a place without these things. They are engrained in us, dripping from every cell.

We will delight in the perfection of God forever for His plan for us is beyond comprehension. “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him,” said Paul to the Corinthians in his attempt to explain the unexplainable. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

He exhorts us in Philippians 3, “18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly (their wants, their immediate appetite, their demands), and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

Wow! If we could just get a tiny little glimpse of heaven I think our grip on earth would loosen. Lord, rebuke me when I make my desires more important than Your praise. Keep me from taking pride in that which give and let me hold the things of this world with an open hand.
