Importance of SOD
Superoxide dismutase is an enzyme created by the gene of the same name. The SOD gene family is SO important especially for those with a chronic infection (like Lyme or H. pylori).
SOD takes superoxide and breaks it down to water to be excreted. In the presence of an increased amount of nitric oxide (in a chronic infection), coupled with a defect in one or more of the SOD genes, one will be in a world of hurt. Find out more in this video:
