Fruits & Nutrition

Fruits are so diverse in taste, texture & nutrient qualities. Fruits are such wonderful additions to our daily diet & can help us fight vitamin & mineral deficiency, which is what most of us suffer from, often without knowing. While all fruits have some health benefits, there are a few of our favorites due to their inflammation-fighting abilities & antioxidant properties.

Cherries —

A study in the April 2006 Journal of Nutrition showed that eating cherries daily can significantly reduce inflammation. Cherries are also packed with antioxidants and relatively low on the glycemic index. They are one of the ‘stone fruits’ (fruits with pits) that are great for diabetic and cancer patients.

Tip: Frozen cherries are available all year long and make a tasty treat when blended in a smoothie.

Blueberries —

These delectable fruits are chock-full of natural compounds that reduce inflammation. Blueberries may also protect the brain from many of the effects of aging. Frozen blueberries are usually less expensive than fresh — and just as good for you.

Lemons —

Lemons are high in Vitamin C, fiber, & plant compounds that contribute to many health benefits. Lemons contain additional vitamins & minerals, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, & minerals such as iron & potassium. Drinking lemon water daily can have wonderful benefits on digestion, bloating, & vitamin & mineral deficiency.

Pineapple —

Pineapple is loaded with nutrients & antioxidants that help fight against inflammation & disease. This fruit is particularly rich in Vitamin C & manganese. Its antioxidant qualities make this fruit a wonderful addition to the diet to help fight inflammation in the body & chronic diseases.

Açaí —

Açaí berries are extremely nutrient dense, which is why it is noticed as a superfood! They contain trace minerals, including zinc, iron, copper, manganese, magnesium, potassium, & phosphorus & include Vitamin A, fiber & calcium.

Açaí contains powerful antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative & free radical damage. The fruit has also been known to stimulate the immune system, lower blood sugar, & even help with inflammation.
