What can Collagen Do?
Are you feeling stiff, sore and tired? Is it more difficult to bend over to get your socks on? Are your knees and hips making more noise than your Rice Crispies? Lifestyle is a huge factor to the body’s reduced elasticity over time. This elasticity is vital in cartilage, tendons, ligaments and skin. With this lack of elasticity, wrinkles are more prevalent, there is a decrease in dermal matrix, and it can easily cause soft tissue and joint discomfort.
Our Orthomolecular product, CollaGEN contains FORTIGEL®, which has been shown to stimulate collagen regeneration, type II collagen and aggrecan, which all help to maintain healthy connective tissue. Most therapies combat these issues simply block joint pain and connective tissue discomfort from exercise, however, they also inhibit the regeneration and elongation of specific precursors, such as polysaccharides and deplete nutrients, such as vitamin C and magnesium that maintain joint and connective tissue health. According to Orthomolecular, “FORTIGEL®, TendoActive® and Mobilee® protect and preserve cartilage, tendons, ligaments, intervertebral discs, and fascia.” These three ingredients have supported the natural healing process and maintain the structure of connective tissues.
FORTIGEL® is backed by more than fifteen studies, showing that it provides bioactive collagen peptides (BCPs), which contain high concentrations of specific peptides that comprise connective tissue. FORTIGEL® provides 5 g hypoallergenic protein per serving from a sustainable protein source. Clinical studies demonstrate significant joint health benefits, many being double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials. Those who were given FORTIGEL® showed significant improvements in stimulation of the synthesis of aggrecan (an important component in cartilage) and type II collagen, which plays a key role in cartilage elasticity, along with support for tendon and ligament matric molecules. The results of the study found that FORTIGEL® supported normal joint mobility and overall joint health.
Hyaluronic Acid Extract
Mobilee® is a patented rooster comb extract rich in high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA). This is responsible for viscoelastic, lubricating properties of synovial fluid. This extract also contains collagen and other glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Hyaluronic acid plays a critical role in the biophysical, biochemical and cell regulation processes in joint synovial tissues. The latest clinical research concludes that HA plays a significant role in the maintenance of joint care and supports normal range-of-motion.
Type I Collagen and Mucopolysaccharides
TendoActive is a combination of type I collagen and mucopolysaccharides. Adult tendons, ligaments and facial tissue are comprised mainly of type I collagen molecules in which are organized into structural units. The molecular structure and organization of these key units are determinants in the ability of these tissues to endure mechanical force and fuel self-repair. While collagen provides much of tendon/ligament structure and strength, mucopolysaccharides are the “glue” that holds them together and allows for stretch, flexing, and bend to maintain their resilience, making mucopolysaccharides a critical component of extracellular matrix to maintain structural integrity, lubrication and spacing of collagen fibers. In addition, TendoActive has been shown to be effective in in studies done on the medial and lateral epicondyle tendons, Achilles tendon and plantar fascia.
