No, not Cardi B, the crude and somehow popular singer. Cardio B, instead, supports the body’s cardiovascular and neurologic health, allowing for homocysteine balance, healthy arterial function, and maintains normal inflammatory balance.
The Cardio B supplement balances out deficiencies to promote cardiovascular health by increasing the body’s methylation capacity. Methylation is a biochemical process in which requires essential vitamins to covert the problematic amino acid metabolite homocysteine into the amino acids methionine and cysteine. Methylation is critical for maintaining mental and physical health, as recycling homocysteine is vital in supporting cardiovascular health. This process is often inhibited by nutrient deficiencies, especially of folic acid, B6 and B12. What contributes to these deficiencies are certain medications, such as acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen and oral contraceptives, depleting blood levels of these crucial B vitamins and decreasing the body’s methylation capacity.
Folate
So many cheap supplements use synthetic folic acid – a very dangerous substitute for the natural folate. Methylation also requires an adequate folate status, being critical for maintaining optimal red blood cell balance, DNA and RNA synthesis and healthy cell division and replication. Orthomolecular explains the unique process, stating that, “Folic acid is converted into its metabolically active form, 5-MTHF, by the enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (5-MTHFR).1 5-MTHF donates its methyl group to vitamin B12 (cobalamin), forming methylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin helps convert the problematic amino acid metabolite homocysteine into the amino acid methionine.” Folate is necessary for maintaining a proper methylation process.
B12
Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) works alongside folic acid in many body processes, including the synthesis of DNA, red blood cells and supporting health of the myelin sheath, the insulating exterior that surrounds the nerve cells. Vegetarians and the eldery are often prone to B12 deficiencies due to B12 being found primarily in animal foods. B12 is a vital nutrient for balancing homocysteine levels, so its lack in the body can contribute to the decrease in regulation of methylation pathways.
B6
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is required for more than 60 different enzymatic reactions that occur throughout the body. Vitamin B6 works along with folic acid and B12 for the vital process of recycling homocysteine. B6 also supports cardiovascular health by promoting healthy platelet aggregation and aids in maintaining health blood pressure. In addition, it is also responsible for the activation of lysyl oxidase, an enzyme responsible for the cross-linking of collagen and elastin, which is crucial for maintaining normal circulation and arterial function.
Trimethylglycine (Betaine)
Trimethylglycine betaine functions as a unique methyl donor in the body, supporting the liver function and detoxification pathways and the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. Detoxification is imperative for proper gut health, along with all bodily systems, as it releases the toxins and harmful substances from the body. Trimethylglycine also works alongside B6, B12, and folic acid to maintain proper homocysteine balance.
