What are SNPs?
In genetics, defects called single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs (pronounced 'snips') can change the way a gene behaves. When we are discussing genes along metabolic pathways, disruption in the creation of enzymes is about which we are mainly speaking.
SNP defects in genes can cause an UP or DOWN regulation of gene function. This can affect the patient in various ways depending on the particular function of that gene.
I hope the video will help explain this.
